Event Description:

The January FRPA event will focus on the statutory ban on Chinese telecommunications and its impact on Federal real property contracting. Section 889 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2019 prohibits the Federal Government from procuring Chinese telecommunications equipment and services. Under a provision that takes effect in August 2020, the Federal government cannot contract with any entity, including an international entity or an entity unrelated to the government contract that uses such equipment, even if the use is unrelated to federal government contracting. Given the widespread use of Chinese telecommunications equipment, the potential impact of this statute in Federal real estate is significant and far-reaching.

The January session will convene stakeholders to discuss the sweeping impact of the statutory ban and consider options for practical implementation. The roundtable format of the session will include officials from the General Services Administration, Congressional staff, and industry representatives.
